Israeli attorney Mendel Scharf has been chosen by Robert Servatius to assist him in his defense of Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi war criminal who directed the murder of 6, 000, 000 Jews in Europe during the Second World War, Mr. Scharf, who will advise the West German attorney on Israeli court procedure, was chosen by Dr. Servatius from a list furnished him by Attorney General Gideon Hausner, containing the names of lawyers who indicated their readiness to assist him.

Dr. Servatius must decide by Wednesday, whether he wants an inquiry before an examining magistrate as a preliminary to the trial scheduled for March 15. At such preliminary hearings, the prosecution is merely required to establish a prima facie case against the defendant. In view of the weight of the evidence against Eichmann, it is expected that Dr. Servatius will waive the preliminary hearing.
