Israeli Envoys in 10 Latin American Countries Confer in Montevideo

possible repercussions throughout the South American continent of the forthcoming trial in Jerusalem of Nazi mass murderer Adolf Eichmann was under study today at a conference here of 10 Israel envoys to countries on the continent.

The conference, under the chairmanship of Chaim Yahil, director-general of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, was convened primarily to study means to strengthen Israeli ties with the Latin American countries. Assisting Mr. Yahil was Avraham Daron, director of Latin American affairs in the Foreign Ministry.

Mr. Yahil told a press conference in Argentina that enormous streams of weapons were flowing to Egypt. He was received by Dr. Diogenes Taboada, the Argentine Foreign Minister, for a cordial courtesy visit. Angel Conteno, the Argentine Foreign Undersecretary, tendered the Israel official a luncheon which was attended by high officials of the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

Assurances of the “inflexible attitude” of the Uruguayan Government against any anti-Semitic manifestations was given today to Dr. Maurice Perlzweig, political secretary of the World Jewish Congress, during a visit here. The assurances were given by Cardinal Barbieri and Carlos Puig, the Minister of the Interior, in a discussion with the World Jewish Congress official on the problems of anti-Semitism.
