Jordan today made its annual formal protest to the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission against Israel’s plans to hold its annual Independence Day parade in Jerusalem. Jordan contended that the heavy guns and tanks planned to be included in the parade were contrary to the armistice agreement.
The agreement does limit the size and quantity of weapons which each country is permitted to have in its sector of Jerusalem but Israel, as on each previous occasion, notified Jordan it planned to bring in armaments over the limits for several hours solely for parade display.
It has been standard practice of the two countries to notify each other on such occasions but Jordan has always submitted a protest to the Mixed Armistice Commission.
