Former Premie Moshe Sharett today appealed to Zionists in the United States to “once and for all establish a central organization.” The existing Zionist parties, he said, must show that they put their loyalty to Zionism above sectional and partisan interests. The present situation, he pointed out, encourages dodging of responsibility, since each party is busy with its own problems instead of with the future as a whole.
Mr. Sharett spoke at the opening session of the four-day meeting of the Zionist Actions Committee. In opening the meeting, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, announced that Mr. Sharett has accepted the post of chairman of the Jewish Agency executive. Dr. Goldmann said he was resigning the chairmanship, but will retain the presidency of the World Zionist Organization.
Dr. Goldmann presented to the various parties a proposal for distribution of portfolios for the new executive of the Jewish Agency which the Actions Committee is to elect. Several parties declined to give immediate approval to the list of candidates proposed by Dr. Goldmann.
