JERUSALEM (Jul. 16)
Eric Wendelin, the United States Consul-General in Jerusalem, has expressed satisfaction with the assurance of police protection for the Church of Christ missionary center here, after complaints by church officials of harassment by Orthodox Jews in the area.
The assurance was given at a meeting attended by S. B. Yeshaya, the head of the Jerusalem district administration, Jerusalem police officials, and Christian ministers of the missionary center.
It was reported that both Mr. Yeshaya and police officials suggested to Mr. Wendelin that it might not be coincidental that such difficulties had arisen around the Church of Christ mission, while many other Protestant and Catholic churches conducted their activities in Jerusalem without protest. It was noted that the Church of Christ mission, operating in a suburb with many Orthodox Jews, conducted missionary activities blatantly in contrast to other churches.
