Moroccan Jewish Leader Appeals to Jews in Algeria to Trust Moslems

David Amar, secretary-general of the Moroccan Jewish Communities, addressed a plea to Jews in Algeria today, asking them to reconsider their views about the possibility of continuing their life in a “free Algeria” after their independence is attained there.

He expressed the hope that Algerian Jews would find it possible to live “in an atmosphere of trust with those among whom they have been living for 2,000 years.” At the same time, Mr. Amar demanded that Algerian authorities rule out religious discriminations in an independent Algeria.
