Los Angeles Jewish Federation Celebrates 50 Years of Community Service

The Jewish Federation-Council here tonight celebrated its golden anniversary at its annual meeting marking 50 years of organized Jewish community service in Los Angeles. More than 1, 000 Jews active in communal affairs attended the dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel;

Ambassador Philip M. Klutznick, United States representative on the United Nations Economic and Social Council, was the principal speaker. Attorney Walter S. Hilborn and Mrs. Edmond Lazard, civic and Jewish community leaders, were presented the annual Judge Harry Hollzer Memorial Award, established in 1945 in memory of the late jurist who was the first president of the Jewish Community Council, and awarded for “outstanding service in the field of human relations.”

Other highlights of the meeting included: The honoring of Ludwig Schiff, M.B. Silberberg, Mrs. J. A. Stodel and Mrs. Florine Wolfstein, pioneer community leaders, in recognition of their 50 years of continuous service; presentation of a Charter from the Jewish Federation-Council to the recently organized Southern Area Council, accepted by William Kane, president pro-tem; and the honoring of 19 executives and employees of the Jewish Federation-Council and its agencies who have marked a minimum of 25 years service;
