Directors of Solel Boneh, the construction arm of Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, discussed here today the possibility of letting a contract to an American engineering firm which would replace three French companies in the building of the new port of Ashdod. The American firm being considered is Fraiser Engineering Company.
According to the directors, the three French firms have delayed provision of stones needed for a large breakwater that must be built at the new port. This delay, it was said, is threatening to disrupt the entire time-table for completion of the port’s first stage for use during the 1964-65 citrus export season.
The French partners on the project were said to be anxious to step put of the project. The American firm, on the other hand, has reportedly offered to do the Job and complete it even ahead of the deadline set for the French firms. Final decision on the French withdrawal and the American take-over is expected within a week.
