The keel was laid here today for a 23,000-ton Israeli passenger liner, the SS Shalom, which will be finished late in 1963.

Shipyard officials said that the liner was designed to carry 1,071 passengers between Haifa and New York. The ship will have three open-air swimming pools and a cabaret.
