An art exhibit, the proceeds of which will benefit the $1,000,000 Library Fund of the Women’s Division, American Friends of the Hebrew University–and including a $450,000 Van Gogh painting on loan from a private collection–was opened here today. The Van Gogh canvas, “The Sower,” is from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Morris W. Haft.
Among the valuable paintings listed for sale are a Braque oil, “Still Life with Fruit,” valued at $65,000; a Vlaminck canvas valued at $60,000; a Rouault “Biblical Scene” valued at $45, 000; a Renoir oil valued at $28, 000; a Renoir “Nude” valued at $24, 000; Utrillo’s “La Maison Blanche” valued at $27,000 and paintings by Valtat, Derain, Hassam and Edvard Munch.
Marc Chagall is represented by a group of color lithographs of his recently executed stained glass windows. Other paintings for sale include United States, French, Italian, Japanese, Israeli and South American artists. Proceeds from the exhibit, which will extend through May 8, will help complete the construction and equipment of the new library of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
