A $25, 000 endowment for a series of law lectures has been presented to the University of Pittsburgh in the name of Louis Caplan, president of the American Jewish Committee, it was reported here today by the university. The endowment will establish the Louis Caplan Distinguished Lectures in Law, honoring Mr. Caplan.
The endowment was presented to Chancellor Edward H. Litchfield of the University of Pittsburgh by Leon Falk, Jr., and Henry M. Epstine in behalf of a number of Mr. Caplan’s friends, Mr. Caplan, a prominent civic leader and philanthropist, assumed the presidency of the American Jewish Committee in June 1961. A native of Pittsburgh, he received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh Law School and for more than 15 years, has been a member of the Judicial Conference for the Third Judicial Circuit of the United States.
