Adolf Eichmann, who was visited Sunday at Ramleh prison by his wife, Vera, received a visit there today from Magistrate Yehuda Weiss who tried, unsuccessfully, to question the prisoner about Nazi war-crime collaborators awaiting trials in Vienna and Belgrade.
The Austrian and Yugoslavian Governments had requested the questioning of the ex-Gestapo colonel, who is awaiting disposition by the Israel Supreme Court of his conviction and death sentence by the Jerusalem District Court for directing the annihilation of 6,000,000 European Jews, Vienna and Belgrade authorities feel that Eichmann may throw further light on the activities of the men charged with war crimes in Austria and Yugoslavia. However, Eichmann refused to answer Magistrate Weiss’ questions under the pretext that his appeal is still pending.
Minister of Police Behor Shitreet said today that, in prison, Eichmann is maintaining an unemotional posture, “He showed no emotion whatever,” said Mr. Shitreet, “when he met his wife under the prevailing conditions in prison, while awaiting a decision on his appeal from the death sentence. That man must be stronger than steel.”
