The Housing Ministry submitted a request today for a special allocation of 100,000,000 pounds ($33, 333, 333) to build an additional 10,000 dwelling units for new immigrants.

The funds sought would be in addition to the allocation for housing in the 1962-63 budget, which is providing for a housing program currently proceeding at the rate of 2,000 units a month.

Housing Ministry officials said the need for additional dwelling units stemmed from an increase in immigration not anticipated in original budget estimates. Treasury officials met with the Housing Ministry to discuss means of obtaining the extra allocation which, the Ministry said, was needed to expand housing construction to keep pace with the current rate of immigration.
