Jewish Agency plans for the absorption of at least 1,000 young Jewish immigrants from Latin America and, “if necessary,” even more, were announced here today by Moshe Kol, head of the Agency’s youth immigration department.
The young immigrants, Mr. Kol said, will be allocated here among the various schools, religious and vocational, conducted by varying trends in Judaism, as well as in public schools. A special committee, he said, will be formed of representatives of all youth movements in Latin American countries. This committee will supervise the implementation of the absorption plan.
Part of the transportation costs to Israel, and the expenses here, Mr. Kol declared, will be paid by the Jewish Agency. Delegates from Latin American countries to the World Conference on Jewish Education, which is now taking place here, have reported to the Agency on the outlook for the emigration of Jewish youth from their countries to Israel.
