An Algerian Jewish refugee collapsed from hunger and had to be hospitalized in the French Department of Lot, southeast of Bordeaux, after he and his family had refused to partake of any food due to the lack of kosher facilities, it was reported here today by the French daily, Le Monde.

The newspaper, which is currently reviewing the Algerian problem, said that the case of near starvation because of a lack of kosher food was one of many similar incidents. The report noted that the Jews among the Algerian refugees were among the most orderly and disciplined of all the repatriates. They are, however, deeply attached to their religious institutions and suffer from lack of proper synagogue and other traditional facilities, Le Monde stated.
