The National Council of Young Israel has called upon American Jewish organizations to join in raising funds to enable the State of Israel to participate in the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. The Israel Government had originally intended to erect a pavilion at the fair but, at a recent Cabinet meeting, decided against it, in view of the high cost of the project.
In a cable to Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Rabbi David H. Hill, national president of Young Israel, declared that “it would be a great loss if Israel, a bastion of democracy in the Middle East, were unable to exhibit at the World’s Fair.” Rabbi Hill expressed the view that an appeal for funds to aid in the project “will find wholehearted response among individual Americans.”
