The office of the Israel Chief of Staff was reported today to be considering revoking the rank of lieutenant colonel of Dr. Israel Beer whose conviction on charges of espionage was sustained yesterday by the Israel Supreme Court. The high court also increased Dr. Beer’s sentence from 10 to 15 years.
The Israeli military code empowers the Chief of Staff, on permission of the Defense Ministry, to revoke the rank of any officer of the regular army of the reserves who is convicted of a criminal offense.
