Rep. Torbert H. Macdonald, Massachusetts Democrat, said today in a speech on the House floor that emerging Afro-Asian nations should note Soviet anti-Semitism as an illustration of how “the Communists resort to racism in pursuit of their goals.” Anti-Semitism in the Soviet Union provided “a somber lesson for all peoples of the free world,” he said.

Soviet pretenses in the area of minority rights are “indeed hollow when viewed against the background of anti-Semitism in Russia today,” Rep. Macdonald stressed. “The Soviets have gone beyond the limits of an anti-religious campaign in treatment of Jews within Soviet borders. Their tactics have entered into the realm of racism.”
