Weizmann Institute Scientist Wins High British Chemistry Award

One of the highest British honors in the field of chemistry has been conferred on Professor Franz Sondheimer of the Weizmann Institute of Science by the Chemical Society of London, according to an announcement here today by Dewey D. Stone, chairman of the board of directors of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Professor Sondheimer, head of the Institute’s Organic Chemistry Department, was named recipient of the Corday-Morgan Medal for his “contributions to the chemistry of natural products.” The award, consisting of a silver medal and a monetary prize of 400 guineas ($1,176) is presented annually to a chemist of British nationality under 36 years of age for the “most meritorious contribution to experimental chemistry” during the preceding five years.
