Dr. Eugen Gerstenmair, president of the West German Bundestag, declared here last night that he had “always been in favor” of diplomatic relations between his country and Israel.

Speaking to reporters at Idlewild Airport before his departure to West Germany, he also said that if the Arab countries retaliated for such recognition by recognizing East Germany, this would be regrettable and would lead to “a very bad disturbance” of West German relations with the Arab countries.
