Zainval Diamant, a Yiddish author who served as a volunteer in the French Army in World War II and who was taken prisoner by the German army in 1940, died here today from a heart ailment. He was 59 years old.

He came to the United States in 1948 and joined the editorial staff of the Biographical Dictionary of Modern Jewish Literature, which is being published by the Congress for Jewish Culture. He was the author of several books.
