Memorial Meeting for Lipsky Held in Israel; President Shazar Attends

A memorial meeting for Louis Lipsky, the late dean of the American Zionist movement who died in New York last month, was held here today in the presence of President and Mrs. Zalman Shazar and other leading Israeli personalities.

Moshe Sharett, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive, spoke of Mr. Lipsky as a man of “vision, faith and idealism, combined with practical ability. ” Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Keren Hayesod, described Mr. Lipsky as the architect of American Zionism and recalled his decisive role in the founding of the Keren Hayesod and the United Israel Appeal. Judge Louis Levinthal of Philadelphia, chairman of the board of governors of the Hebrew University and veteran American Zionist leader, gave reminiscences of his contacts with Mr. Lipsky.
