A comprehensive program advocating expanded social legislation in the United States was adopted here today by the 600 delegates attending the 18th biennial convention of the Pioneer Women, the Women’s Labor Zionist Organization of America. The organization also elected its list of national officers for the next two years, to be headed by Mrs. Blanche Fine, of New York, as president. She succeeds Mrs. Clara Leff.
The program embracing education and social action proposed for the United States included advocacy of medical care for the aged under Social Security, without a “means test”; Federal aid to education in public schools, particularly for school construction and higher salaries for teachers; revision of the American immigration policies, including elimination of the national origins quota system; broader civil rights legislation; equal status for women in job opportunities and in public office; and support by the United States Government of the United Nations activities, including the United Nations peace-keeping machinery.
