The House Foreign Affairs Committee began consideration today of the Foreign Assistance Bill with opening remarks by a number of representatives indicating hostility to further aid to the United Arab Republic.
Rep. James Roosevelt, California Democrat, said that President Nasser’s remarks to the Egyptian troops about destruction of Israel, delivered earlier this month in Alexandria, were reason enough to cut off aid to the UAR. Rep, Emanuel Celler, New York Democrat, cited instances of misconduct by Nasser and criticized continuation of aid.
