M. Gaynor, Aged Jewish Author, Dies Following Attack in N.Y. Subway

Moishe Gaynor, a 77-year-old author of books and articles in Yiddish and Hebrew died today in a hospital after he was attacked by a muscular six-foot subway rider who was jailed by police on a charge of homicide.

The victim, who wrote under the pen-name M. Chochom, had tried to stop a quarrel between Jerry Watts and another subway rider. Watts, a laborer, who had been quarreling with the other passenger, turned on Gaynor and beat him with his fists. As Gaynor was describing the attack, to the police he complained of feeling sick and was rushed to a hospital where he died early today.
