The Ministerial Economic Committee today approved plans for the extension of the Israel railways system from its present southern terminus at Beersheba to Dimona, which lies about 20 miles to the southwest of the Negev city. The project, estimated to cost about 10,000,000 pounds ($3,300,000), is expected to be completed within two years.

The committee also approved the initial planning of a further extension of the railway line to Oron, site of the Negev’s major phosphate works, which is about 10 miles south of Dimona.
