Young Israeli Sentenced in Haifa for Spying; Acted for Lebanon

The Haifa District Court today imposed a sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment on Shalom Zecharya, a 25-year-old Jew who pleaded guilty to charges of espionage for the Lebanese intelligence service.

A former paratrooper, Zecharya had crossed twice into Israel for espionage purposes and was arrested on his third attempt. He bad received a total of 1,400 Israeli pounds ($467) for his services.
