The Gold Medal of the National Interfaith Movement was presented to New York City Comptroller Abraham D. Beame today at a brief ceremony in his office at the Municipal Building. The presentation was made by Dr. Herman P. Mantell, president of the Interfaith Movement. Representatives of ethnic, minority, and civil rights groups attended the presentation ceremony.
Among previous recipients of the Gold Medal have been President Eisenhower, Cardinal Spellman, Dr. Dan Potter, president of the Protestant Council of the City of New York; Mohammed Zafralla Khan, former president of the United Nations General Assembly; Rabbi H. Harold Gordon, executive vice-president, New York Board of Rabbis; Mayor Wagner, and others. The late President John F. Kennedy was scheduled to receive the medal, but his tragic death ended plans for the presentation, according to Dr. Mantell.
