The Rt. Rav. Msgr. Gori, Latin Patriarch and Vicar for Israel, has been elevated to the rank of bishop, It was announced by the Vatican today. The elevation of Father Gori was said by Vatican circles to be due to the satisfaction of Pope Paul VI with the vicar’s contribution to the success of the Pontiff’s recent visit to Israel. Lay circles, here, however, said today that the elevation may also be considered as a special mark of attention to Israel from Pope Paul.
