Dr. Selman A. Waksman, the Nobel Prize winner, took part today in ground-breaking ceremonies on the campus of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology marking the inauguration of a new research center which he will oversee.
Named for the New York businessman who donated the bulk of the funds for construction of the new facility, the Horace Goldsmith Institute of General and Industrial Microbiology will focus research attention on “bacteria, molds, yeasts and other microscopic forms of life” with a view towards “practical utilization for industrial, food and other purposes.”
