Philip M. Klutznick, noted Jewish leader, has assumed the chairmanship of the the National Committee for the Jabotinsky Memorial, comprised of leaders of the American Jewish community, Morris Weinberg, veteran Zionist, announced here today.
The National Committee was recently established for the transfer to Israel of the remains of Zeev Jabotinsky, fighter for Jewish statehood and founder of the Jewish Legion in World War I, for reinterment on Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem, by order of the Israel Government. Israel Ambassador to the U.S., Avraham Harman, is honorary president of the national body. Co-chairmen include Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik; Rabbi Eliexer Silver, Cincinnati; Prof; Saul Lieberman, Dr. Louis I. Newman; Ambassador Katriel Katz, Const-General of Israel in New York and Edward S. Silver, District Attorney of Kings County, New York.
Among the Zionist leaders who Joined the Committee as co-chairmen are Mrs. Rose Halperin, chairman of the American Section of the Jewish Agency for Israel. Dr. Max Nussbaum, chairman of the American Zionist Council and president of ZOA; Dr. Emanuel Neumann, member of the Jewish Agency and president of the Herzl Foundation; Dr. Joseph B. Schechtman, member of the Jewish Agency and national chairman, United Zionists-revisionists of America. The transfer of the remains of Jabotinsky from New York will take place on July 6, on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the death of the world Zionist Revisionist leader.
