Catholic Archbishop Becomes President of British Christian-jewish Body

Dr. John Heenan, Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, accepted last night an invitation of the British Council of Christians and Jews to become a president of the Council. The event marked the return of British Catholics to the interfaith organization after an absence of ten years.

Archbishop Heenan, in accepting the invitation, implemented an announcement two weeks ago that, with permission, he planned to take the step. A representative of the Archbishop said the acceptance of the invitation was “a significant and much welcome development in relations between the Catholic Church and the Jews.”
