American policy toward Israel will come under attack here tomorrow from anti-Israel elements at hearings by the Republican Party’s Plattorm Committee, while supporters of Israel will testify subsequently, along with a number of other witnesses, on issues of special Jewish interest. A Platform Committee panel will hear, tomorrow, the testimony of Harold B. Minor, representing the Citizens
Committee on American Policy in the Near East, a pro-Arab propaganda organization; and William S. Loucheim, spokesman for the anti-Zionist American Council for Judaism.
Later this week, statements will be made on the Israel policy issue by Norman Raies, spokesman of the Cedar Society, an organization of Americans of Syrian-Lebanese ancestry. A prediction was made here today that these witnesses will attack a pro-Israel plank already drafted for the G.O.P. platform and supported by a large number of Republican Senators and House of Representative members.
PLATFORM COMMITTEE TO HOLD HEARING ON SOVIET TREATMENT OF JEWS
U.S. Sen, Jacob K, Javitr and Sen. Kenneth B, Keating, New York Republicans, along with Sen. Hugh Scott, Pennsylvania Republican who is a member of the Platform Committee, have indicated that they will support the proposed pro-Israel plank in testimony. Ogden Reid, former United States Ambassador to Israel, a New York Republican now in the House of Representatives, also will testify.
On-July 10, the Platform Committee will devote a panel hearing to the subject of Soviet anti-Semitism. Brock Maisland will testify on behalf of the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry. It is expected that the question will be raised of the need for stronger U. S. Government action to relieve the plight of Soviet Jews.
Testimony on various other subjects of Jewish interest will be offered by Daniel Neal Heller, national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States; Mrs. B.Abbott Goldberg, of the National Council of Jewish Women; I.L. Kenen, of the America-Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Bernard Katzen, of the National Republican Committee.
