The possibility of a conference this year between Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and West Germany’s Chancellor Ludwig Erhard was reported here today.
The mass circulation evening newspaper, Maariv, declared that such a meeting is scheduled to take place outside Germany during European visits Mr. Eshkol expects to make “to one or more” countries this year. According to the report, Chancellor Erhard plans to go abroad himself at about the same time as Mr. Eshkol, and further contacts between Germany and Israel will determine the place and time of the Eshkol-Erhard talks.
Both Dr. Erhard and Mr. Eshkol are reported to feel that such a meeting between them is necessary in order to clarify a number of problems concerning the relations of Israel and Germany. Among these problems are economic relations, as well as the question of the German scientists at work in Egypt on weapons of mass destruction designed for war against Israel.
