Major problems affecting Jewry and American domestic and foreign issues will highlight the deliberations of the 50th national convention of Hadassah, it was announced here today. The convention will open at the International Hotel, Los Angeles, on August 16. More than 2,000 delegates–representing Hadassah’s more than 300,000 throughout the United States and Puerto Rico–will attend the four-day gathering.
Mrs. Max Schenk of New York, Hadassah’s national convention chairman, announced today that major issues to be dealt with at the convention will include Soviet Anti-Semitism; Arab-Supported Anti-Semitism in Latin America; Implementation of Civil Rights; Preserving Jewishness in America; Israel and Arab Intransigeance; Israel-American Relations; Prayer in the Public Schools; and Revision of Existing Immigration Laws.
The convention also will feature special briefings on such aspects of Hadassah’s programs as American Affairs; Zionist Affairs; Hadassah’s medical work; Youth Aliyah; Hadassah’s Vocational Education Services in Israel; membership; and youth activities in the United States. Hadassah conducts in Israel a comprehensive health, vocational education and social welfare program, which includes diagnostic, curative and preventive medical services, health stations, rehabilitation and education of underprivileged children and youth, and land redemption.
