Egypt is pressing Jordan to accept super sonic aircraft from the Soviet Union, to offset Israel’s French-made Mirage fighters, the Sunday Observer reported here today from Amman, capital of Jordan. Egypt, according to the report, has also urged Jordan to tighten its ground defenses along the west bank of the Jordan River, and to station 10,000 more soldiers along its Israeli border.
The newspaper stated that Jordan’s Prime Minister Bahjat Talhoumi confirmed to the Observer’s Amman correspondent reports that the USSR has offered to supply Jordan with supersonic aircraft and other modern weapons.
