The annual plenary session of the DAIA, the central body of Argentine Jewry, expressed the hope today that West Germany would extend the deadline for the prosecution of Nazi war criminals beyond next May 8.
President Isaac Goldenberg said that a consolidation of the internal situation of Argentine Jewry had taken place during the past two years, and that frictions among Jewish institutions had “happily diminished.” The session adopted a declaration that the DAIA, was the only body competent to act as the political representative of Argentine Jewry.
Mark Turkow, South American representative of the World Jewish Congress, reported on the preliminary vote of approval by the third session of the Ecumenical Council on the declaration holding Jews, past and present, innocent of the charge of deicide, and condemning anti-Semitism. He said the “political consequences” of the vote were probably only now getting started.
