More than 3,000 former inmates of Nazi concentration camps and ghettoes staged a colorful demonstration today in Canada’s capital, here, paying “homage to the dead” of the holocaust and, simultaneously, issuing “a warning to the living.”
Gathering in Montraal, survivors from all over Canada came to this city in a motorcade, staging their rally on Parliament Hill, where they were addressed, among others, by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Later, a plaque was presented to the Premier, in memory of this occasion.
Included among the participants were representatives of many major national civic, military and religious organizations, and members of the Canadian armed forces and the Canadian Legion. After the rally at Parliament Hill, the group marched to the National War Memorial, laying a wreath there.
