A public reception was held tonight at a synagogue in Jackson Heights for a Catholic priest who resisted Nazi pressure in his native Belgium to save a Jewish family during the Nazi occupation of the country.

The Rev. Hubert Celis hid 16-year-old Regina Rotenberg, her sister and two brothers in the summer of 1942 and despite Nazi pressure and threats he kept the children safe until Belgium was liberated. He was among the guests who celebrated last Saturday at Congregation Tifereth Israel the Bar Mitzvan of Norman Wolbrom, the son of Regina, now Mrs. Isaac Wolbrom.
