Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey today issued a statement memorializing the late Moshe Sharett, former Prime Minister of Israel, who died last week in Jerusalem. Mr. Humphrey said:

“Israel has lost a great leader and the free world a great and respected statesman. Prime Minister Moshe Sharett was more than a builder of a nation which is new and yet ancient, an architect of its independence, and a scholar in the heritage of his people. He was a towering, universal figure–of peace, of good will, and of cooperation. The world will miss his courage, his wisdom, and his idealism. I extend my condolences to Mrs. Sharett, her children, sympathy to Israel, the nation he served so long and so well.”
