A “New Horizons” master plan for further development of the City of Hope here, initiating a $50,000,000, five-year project of vast growth, has been launched here by the national convention of the City of Hope. The plan was approved by delegates from City of Hope chapters in 150 cities in 28 states. The development program is to be culminated in 1970 with the completion of an additional hospital structure.
The program calls for enlarging patient care, research and medical education facilities; consolidation and modernization of many areas of the 90-acre physical plant; stepped-up efficiency of services, and installation of complex new equipment for use in City of Hope pilot programs in heart, blood and chest diseases, cancer and leukemia.
Among the highlights of the convention was the dedication of the new Seymour Graff Building to house research at Duarte. Major addresses were delivered by Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, United Nations Undersecretary for special political affairs, and former United States Senator Kenneth B. Keating. Emanuel H. Fineman was elected president for a full two-year term. He has been serving as president for an interim term, since the death of Seymour Graff, last fall.
