The Eternal Light Vigil conducted here Sunday by the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry, to protest continuing oppression of Soviet Jews, continued its impact on Washington today.

An editorial in the Washington Star today commended highly the demeanor and appearance of the 7,500 to 10,000 demonstrators from all over the country who participated in Sunday’s event.

The Star said: “It is a cause that all Americans can sympathize with, even though not much can be done beyond what has been done.” According to the Star, “There is no reason to hope for much from such a discussion” at the United Nations, as proposed by Vigil speaker James Roosevelt, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Former Gov. David Lawrence, of Pennsylvania, today joined a delegation of about 40 persons representing the Jewish Community Council of Pittsburgh, on a visit here to recite prayers at the Elernal Light Vigil for Soviet Jewry. The group later met with members of Congress representing Pennsylvania. The delegation also visited the grave of President John F. Kennedy.
