The B’nai B’rith board of governors, holding its 122nd annual meeting here, today initiated plans to assist the Jews of Latin America in developing closer relations with non-Jews.
Latin American members reported to the board that the “spirit of ecumenism” generated by the Vatican Council in Rome “will advance inter group harmony” in Catholic nations, but that the “full impact of the Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Jews will probably take one or two generations to develop.” B’nai B’rith adopted a program of technical and financial aid for human relations activities that will be “locally-planned and locally-directed” through B’nai B’rith affiliates in Latin American countries. B’nai B’rith has units in 15 Latin American nations.
Dr. William A. Wexler, B’nai B’rith international president, announced that the program will begin early next year.
