B’nai B’rith Establishes Literary Award; Will Be Presented Annually

B’nai B’rith announced today establishment of the “Jewish Heritage Award,” a $1, 000 literary prize to be presented annually in conjunction with its adult Jewish education department. The award will be given each year to a writer whose published works “by their authentic interpretations of Jewish life and values make a positive contribution to contemporary literature. “The first presentation of the award will be made April 13 in New York.

Dr. Louis Kaplan, president of Baltimore Hebrew College, is chairman of a three-man selection committee that also includes Rabbi Morris Adler of Detroit, chairman of the commission, and Rabbi Jay Kaufman, executive vice-president of B’nai B’rith.
