Yeshiva University’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine opened its new, 12-story, $20, 000, 000 hospital here today. Located in the Bronx, the institution is the first completely new hospital to be built in New York City in 10 years, and the first university hospital to be established by a medical college in this metropolitan area in 77 years.
A 12-story concrete structure, the hospital, with a capacity of 375 beds, includes two eight-story pavilions, the Horace W. Goldsmith and the David and Irene Schwartz pavilions; a three-story, Charles H. Revson Diagnostic Center, the Evelyn and Joseph I. Lubin Rehabilitation Center and the Elizabeth Frankel Radiation Therapy Center. According to Dr. Emanuel Lifshutz, director of the hospital, the air-conditioned institution is fully automated and contains many new features, including highly sophisticated instrumentation developed only within the last 10 years.
