Incomplete returns in yesterday’s general elections throughout South Africa indicated today that three Jewish candidates of 12 running for Parliament had won their contests and two have lost. The winners included Mrs. Helen Sizman, an outspoken critic of Premier Henrik Verwoerd’s apartheid policy, and the only successful candidate of the opposition Progressive Party who was reelected.
Samuel Emdin and Dr. E.L. Fisher, both Jews from Johannesburg constituencies, also were returned to Parliament. The National Party’s S. Frank was expected to hold his seat. The known losers are Hyman Miller and Len Taurog, both of the United Party. Mr. Miller, a citizen here, was born in the United States, the son of a rabbi.
