A series of special events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Sholem Aleichem was held here by the Jewish community. Sholem Aleichem died in New York in 1916.
A series of four lectures devoted to the works and thinking of Sholem Aleichem was concluded here yesterday at the Bialik Library. The lecturers were Leah Schmelt-zinger and Hersch Schwartz, both well known writers. Special readings of Sholem Aleichem’s works, and performances of plays based on his writings, were given during the weekend at the Mount Sinai Center and at the Center for Yiddish Culture in this city.
