The fifth annual study tour to Israel sponsored by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation’s Inter-University Committee on Israel, departed today. The group, consisting of 41 educators and Christian clergymen, was addressed by Consul Basil Herman representing the Consulate of Israel in New York and by the Rev. Karl Baehr, director of the study tour program. Dr. Frederick R. Lachman, vice president of the AICF, greeted the group on behalf of the Foundation.

Consul Herman challenged the participants to dig deep into both historic and contemporary Israel in search of those insights, both spiritual and material, which can point the way to the solution of the pressing problems facing the family of man today. The Rev. Karl Baehr reminded the participants that the tour represented a “people-to-people” type of program and offered them an opportunity to study at close range the locus of their spiritual and democratic heritage. It would also, he noted, provide them with a vivid example of the power of a vital democratic society to rebuild the lives of exploited and persecuted people and to make wasted lands fruitful.

The study program consists of an intensive tour of the Land of Israel, from Dan to Eilat, and a full week Seminar at The Hebrew University.
