Jewish Calendar Published in Rumania in Hebrew, Yiddish, Rumanian

The Federation of Jewish Communities in Rumania today published a calendar for the new Jewish year — 5727 — in the form of a 92-page booklet in Hebrew, Yiddish and Rumanian.

In addition to the usual calendar data for 5727 (1966-67), the booklet includes the texts for the Hebrew prayer for the dead and for memorials to the deceased, as well as explanations of various Jewish religious customs. There are also photographs of famous Jews who hailed from this country, among them the late Rabbis Yaakov Nemirover and Moses Gastar.

The frontispiece of the calendar reprints an excerpt from the Rumanian Constitution setting down the basic law regarding a citizen’s rights to practice his religion if he desires to do so, and guaranteeing that freedom. The calendar was edited by Rumania’s chief rabbi, Dr. Moses Rosen.
