Both Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller and Mayor John V. Lindsay issued New Year messages today, addressed to the Jewish people of New York State and New York City.

The Governor referred in his message to the “ancient Hebraic ideals” and stated that “the solemn period of Rosh Hashana” must remind all people “of how faithfully the Jewish people have shared their great heritage of religious and ethical thought.”

Mayor Lindsay recalled in his message that New York City was host recently to Israel’s President Zalman Shazar of Israel, “a country whose fondest wish is to live at peace with her neighbors.” He continued: “We wish Israel progress toward that goal in the coming year, as indeed we pray together with the Jews all over the world for a world of peace, progress and prosperity.”
